Here is an image of the roughed out first in a series of stars and stripes. I'd like to eventually do 50 of them, all different but all with thirteen stripes. Some round, some domed, some with the "stars" in the middle, or all four corners. Different colors as well, no reason they have to be red, white, and blue. I've also already bought some copper roofing nails that I may use for "stars". I also might just use the bird's-eye maple, leaving the bird's-eyes alone to imply stars. I like the idea of making them multi-level so that the star section sits above the rest. With this first one, the bird's-eye maple section is about 3/16th of an inch proud.

This blog is a great idea, Rob. It is so important and wonderful for people to see inside the studio and have a sense of an artist's process.
ReplyDeleteI want to let you (and others)know that I'm working with some folks to create a statewide Art Zine that would do reviews and essays on art and art issues, and it will have links to Vermont artists' blogs and websites. More later, but I am excited about having a way to give access to things artists are doing online.
Thanks Janet. I look forward to seeing your new art zine as well. It is also a great idea. You never know, we just might be able to make VT at arts destination.
ReplyDeleteYah, if we keep knocking ourselves out, and knocking our heads together!
