Of Land and Local Exhibit Organized by Burlington City Arts
I have two pieces in a show titled Of Land and Local that has been organized and curated by DJ Hellerman of Burlington City Arts. The exhibit is spread over seven venues around Vermont. My pieces, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and Thrice in a Lifetime, will be on exhibit at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in W. Rutland September 14 through October 27. The opening reception is on the 14th from 4:00 to 5:30.

I am drawn to The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Can you tell us more about it, as well as Thrice In A Lifetime?

Thanks Chris. The Revolution ... is based on the TV test pattern, and the title is from the famous Gil Scott Heron song/poem of the same name. I love that poem and I think a test pattern is the perfect way to symbolize it. I also just love the contrasting colors and odd geometric pattern on the test pattern, thought it would make good art. Thrice ... I see as three landscape paintings of the same place at different times of the year. The piece is made with one piece of quilted maple resawn twice to create three sections each 1/2 inch thick. The title is a bit of a reference to a Talking Heads song. I do love David Byrnes lyrics, especially the ones that make no sense. I love great things that don't make any sense. I'm a believer that logic can be the enemy of truth.

DeleteI appreciate your explanation. I recognized the TV test pattern. Is the set of three narrow stripes in the bottom row near the right corner your twist, or is that seen on the original test pattern?
I get the feeling you could make an interesting piece based on the lyric, "drop me in the water" from Talking Heads' song, Take Me to the River.
"Logic can be the enemy of truth." Hmm... I'm going to have to let that one sink in for a bit...
